Every child deserves a voice. No family should walk this alone.

ROAR Children’s Foundation stands beside children affected by sexual abuse and the safe caregivers who love them, here in Nashville.

The ROAR lion

A roar can be: telling someone safe, asking for help, choosing to feel safe again, setting a boundary, taking the next step, a hug that lasts a little longer.

ROAR exists so that no child or safe caregiver has to navigate the aftermath of childhood sexual abuse alone. We bring comfort, guidance and trusted connections, and we help families move from fear and uncertainty toward safety, strength and healing.

Why ROAR was created

Four pillars.One word.

Everything we do follows the journey a family takes, from the first moments after a child speaks up to the joy that can come after.

  1. Respond

Meet the child with comfort. Meet the caregiver with direction.

The first moments after a disclosure can be frightening and confusing. From the very beginning, the child and their safe caregiver should know they are not alone.

    • A comfort lamb for the child to keep
    • A ROAR children’s book, written in gentle words
    • A caregiver packet that answers “What do I do now?”
  2. Offer

Meaningful support for the road ahead.

Our support does not end after the first meeting. The emotional, practical and financial weight of what comes next can last for months, and we stay close through it.

    • Caregiver education and resource navigation
    • Help with therapy, legal and travel costs
    • Ongoing check-ins with the family
  3. Advocate

Help children be heard, protected and supported.

Every child deserves to have their voice taken seriously. We help caregivers understand the systems they meet, and we help our community respond well when a child speaks.

    • Connection to trauma-informed professionals
    • Plain-language guides to the process
    • Community education for the adults around children
  4. Rebuild

Help children rediscover what comes next.

A child’s life should never be defined by what happened to them. Healing makes room for safety, trust and confidence again, and for laughing, playing and simply being a kid.

    • Family days and seasonal celebrations
    • Sponsored experiences and milestones
    • A community for caregivers, too

Families don’t meet these one at a time. They meet them all at once.

Nashville has extraordinary professionals in advocacy, law enforcement, healthcare and the courts. ROAR doesn’t replace any of them. We walk with families through the spaces between, so nobody is left asking “What do we do now?” on their own.

  • Forensic interviews
  • Investigators
  • Medical exams
  • Therapy
  • Attorneys
  • Court dates
  • School
  • Bills
  • Hard conversations

The lion and the lamb

The ROAR lion

The lion is the courage within them.

Drawn the way a child would draw it: warm, simple and brave. Strength can live in someone very small.

The lamb reminds them they don’t have to find it alone.

Every child we serve receives a lamb of their own. Like the shepherd who went after the one, we believe every child is worth finding.

Respond

First-Response Comfort Program

Through partners like child advocacy centers and hospitals, ROAR places a comfort package into a child’s hands during forensic interviews and medical evaluations. At the same time, their safe caregiver receives clear, local guidance for the days ahead.

  • A ROAR lamb. Soft, huggable and theirs to keep. A small reminder that someone sees them and they are not alone.
  • A ROAR storybook. An original children’s book where the lamb walks beside a child as they find their own courage.
  • A caregiver resource packet. Trusted Nashville resources for therapy, advocacy, legal help and family support, in plain language.
